Design Director Regine Ellis’ discerning eye and fashion upbringing has seen John Charles flourish under her reign as Design Director since 1990. Regine grew up surrounded by gifted artisans, including her mother, which sparked her imagination and inspired her own love of fashion and well-cut garments. With unparalleled experience of the luxury market from her time working with leading brands in Paris in London, Regine Ellis knows what works and what doesn’t – whatever your budget. Here she shares her top tips…
Comfort First
The key to any great outfit is to make you look and feel your best, in an outfit that feels comfortable. Be true to your essence. More at home in jeans and a shirt? Try a sophisticated jumpsuit. If you hate heels, rock a pair of jewelled flats (or trainers!). At John Charles, we are loving the floor-length dress trend for a glamorous wedding look and jumpsuits for contemporary elegance.
To Hat or not To Hat?
Hat, fascinator or a fabulous blow dry? If the ceremony is more traditional – or if you love wearing hats and they suit you – then a hat is essential to complete your look. If the wedding is more informal, or you never wear hats, then choose a stylish brooch or headband to finish your big day look. Once more, it’s all about feeling comfortable. And don’t forget the kirby grips!
Glamorous Grooming
As a priority, ensure your budget includes professional hair and make-up on the day. Worry-free beauty from day to night is worth both the price (and the pamper). You won’t regret it!
Are you known for a statement red lip or a sleek blow-out? Bring references of how you would ordinarily do your make-up so the stylist can ensure her beauty look stays true to you, and offer advice based on their experience. See our blog post on Golden Age Glamour for more beauty inspiration.
Ask for help
If the bride has a colour theme in mind, it is important that you work with it. When shopping for your wedding look, I would recommend you take a good friend whose taste you respect. A second opinion is invaluable when making a big decision, and she may direct you to something you wouldn’t have expected! Alternatively, discuss with the Mother of the Bride/Groom about what you both plan on wearing to ensure your fabric choices and colours complement.
Less is More
Simplicity is key. When you’re getting ready, put everything on. Your outfit, shoes, hat, jewellery and bag. Take one hard look in the mirror and take one thing off. Trust me! With an outfit with a wonderful illusion neckline, you rarely need much beyond earrings and a simple bracelet for high-octane glamour.
