Mother of the Bride Styling

Jan 8, 2016

For some, choosing and dressing for a wedding can be a daunting task as its something some mother of the brides have never had to do. But if you follow our simple steps you will not only find the whole process stress free but you will also end up with an outfit that looks and feels timelessly elegant.

Talk to the family

Ask your daughter about her colour choices, this will then be reflected in your own outfit palette – but not matched! It is very important not to be matchy-matchy on the big day, coordinated is key. Bring in either a shade on the whole outfit or go neutral a let a pop of colour coordinate you. It’s important to respect your daughter’s wishes but you need to feel comfortable.

Decide on skirt length

Knee-length or longer is perfect for the occasion, fashionable yet classic. This can also be something to talk to your fellow wedding party guests about as its not essential but can create a very harmonious look to have similar skirt lengths in the photography.

Take your measurements

Some women can live their whole lives wearing the wrong size, finding out your true size can really gift you that look you always knew you had. Wearing an outfit that is not suitable for your shape could make you look bigger than you really are and leave you feeling uncomfortable all day.

Trust in your outfits structure

If you are buying a quality mother of the bride outfit put your trust in its structure to create the silhouette you desire. Built in corsetry will have a dramatic effect on your shape and will flatter any size.

Have Colour Confidence

Something else to consider having measured is not just your size but what colours work for you, personal colour analysis is a very popular appointment nowadays and can really help you in choosing a shade that makes you look radiant and younger.

Create a day to evening look

We often design our outfits to be functional as well as glamorous so we often design our styles with sleeves or a coordinated jacket so you can create a day to night look.

Buy an outfit to last a lifetime

A great mother of the bride outfit can be a great investment, buying an understated dress and jacket and accessioning it will gift you longevity. After the wedding you can team the jacket with trousers or wear the dress with a different jacket or cardigan for dinner out or special event.
